Dr. Kanwar Chahal, DVM
I am Dr. Kanwar Chahal and I have been a full-time veterinarian at Dixie Animal hospital since graduating from veterinary school in 2015. I grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, and have always been passionate about working with animals.
I graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry specialization in 2010. I have done research in bacteriology and aided in developing on-site bacteria identification technology using gene sequencing. My passion for animal care led me to work with many different species of animals, reptiles, and fish. Later, I pursued my education at Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph, ON, where I graduated with Honors in 2015.
Additionally, I am certified in animal dental care from the Animal Dental Center, Baltimore. I received my certificate in principles of orthopedic surgery from AONA at Phoenix, Arizona. I recently obtained my certificate in soft tissue surgery from Western Veterinary Conference training center, Las Vegas.
Most days my three-year-old English bulldog named Hazel tags along with me to work and has become an integrated member of the clinic.
When I am not at work, most of my time is spent with my wife Simran and my one year old daughter Savreen. In my spare time, I volunteer at local food drives, and spend time at the local dog parks.
I love working as a veterinarian along side my exceptionally talented team, where I get to share the bond between pets and pet parents on a daily basis. I find myself fortunate to help pets live a long healthy life so that they can continue to provide their families with unconditional love.
Dr Jastina Sohal, DVM
Hi there, My name is Dr. Jastina Sohal and I am a recent graduate from Ontario Veterinary College. I started working at Dixie Animal Hospital this September of 2018, and it has been a great transition applying all the knowledge I gained over the years to clinical cases.
I grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario and always had an interest in providing for the wellbeing of animals from a very young age. It all started when I was volunteering at a local animal hospital where I found that my strengths, values, and experiences aligned with this career choice. Moving forward I decided to put all my focus and energy in applying to veterinarian school. I completed my Bachelors in Health Sciences at Western University, followed by a Masters in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph. Now after completing my studies at Ontario Veterinary College, I am looking forward to practicing the highest standard of veterinary medicine and am thrilled I can practice in an environment that is so supportive. As a team we are all focused on providing the best care to your furry friends.
Outside of work I like to spend my time outdoors, hiking, reading, and travelling. At home I have a half pug and half American Eskimo named Franklin and an orange tabby named Mouse. These two definitely keep my family busy but also allow us to see the beautiful interaction that two animals can have with each other. I feel privileged to experience the bond between a pet and their owner on a regular basis and I am looking forward to meeting you and your furry friend!
